Washington, D.C.  –  Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO) released the following statement on the reckless Democrat spending bill:

“The record increases in the cost of living facing all Missouri families can be directly traced to the policies advanced by Joe Biden and Democrats in Congress.  Instead of working to help families afford their everyday necessities and ease the economic pain, Democrats are ramming through a tax increase at a perilous time.  This radical, far-left spending bill is just going to make life more unaffordable and increase inflation, at a time when people can’t afford the gas and groceries they need to get to work and feed their families.

“When Americans families are struggling, the last thing they need is the federal government imposing higher taxes, increasing energy prices, and targeting hard working folks with IRS audits.  The facts are clear: this is a partisan, special interest driven bill that will fund nearly 90,000 IRS agents who will target the middle class with impunity.  This legislation will tax American energy, leading directly to higher energy costs for consumers and more pain at the pump.  Tax increases like this are unconscionable as working families are already paying higher utility and gas prices in the middle of an economic crisis.  Over $300 billion goes to Green New Deal initiatives like climate justice, tree planting, and even an EPA slush fund.   As businesses attempt to recover from the pandemic and rebuild during this recession, Democrats want to force through a $200 billion “Made in America” tax that will severely overburden American businesses.

“America is in a recession due to Joe Biden and Democrat policies, and this massive spending bill is wildly irresponsible at a time we need a measured economic response to help the Missourians who rely on us.”
